IR English
Overview
Of the Course
Prior to the practical examination for the Instrument Rating IR(A), you have to pass a theoretical examination in IR(A) Aviation English. The goal of the IR(A) Aviation English course is to improve the Aviation phraseology skills and gain the necessary vocabulary for conducting the communication during the IFR flights. They will develop practical habits for using standard phraseology and the ability to understand broadcasts in the cockpit environment. Once the examination is passed, the CAA will also remove the “English VFR Only” restriction from your license.
Theoretical Exams
The IR (A) Aviation English proficiency check consists of the written and oral parts. Both take place on the same day, one after the other.
1- Written test takes 60 minutes and contains radiotelephony phraseology, acronyms.
2- Communication and general English knowledge test (reading and understanding).
Students that pass the test with over 80% success rate, then proceed to the second part: the oral one, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
During the exam, you discuss the results of the written test followed by an interview and simulation of IFR flight communication. Upon the end of the exam, you will receive a certificate, based on which the CAA can add the qualification to your license.
